Village Hall History<\/a><\/h3>

The Villagers of Nanstallon wanted and were granted permission to build a Wesleyan Methodist Church by the Wesleyan Methodist Connection. \nA group of local people set about acquiring some land and raising funds to achieve their aims.\nOn 18th January 1890 a conveyance of land was made by Robert Phillips Edyvean to \nJohn Wallis Boom, Gentleman\nJohn Martin Harvey Cardell, Merchant\nRichard Vercoe Tellam, Gentleman\nJohn Pethybridge, Solicitor\nWilliam Arthur Marshall, Draper\nAll of Bodmin \nJohn Hambley Hugo, Mason \nJohn Pearce, Labourer \nHart Searle, Labourer\nWilliam Charles Vercoe, Labourer\nEdward Oke, Tailor\nAll of Nanstallon \nRichard Knight of Bodwannick, Farmer\nWilliam Pascoe of Boscarne, Miller\nThomas Cornish Rowe of Upper Boscarne Farm, Farmer\nJoseph Grose of Treymayle, Farmer\nHenry Capell of Threewaters, Tailor\nAnd Rev William Joseph Wilkinson superintendent minister. \n\nThe new Wesleyan Methodist Church was built and opened. \nIn addition to building the Chapel the villagers also installed a Trudgeon organ and continued to look after and maintain the building undertaking repairs and improvements enabling its use as a community venue under their stewardship.\nFollowing changes in the Law in 1969\/76 the ownership of the Chapel passed from the village Trustees to The Methodist Church under a new model Trust.\nSadly in December 2021 the Methodist Church authorities decided to sell the building and it closed its doors to worshipers. \nIn the summer of 2022 a few villagers got together and formed the Nanstallon Community Trust, a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, with the sole aim of buying the building to enable its continued use as a Village Hall. By means of lots of fundraising events, local funding, kind financial pledges and donations this was finally achieved in December 2023. \n\nThe Nanstallon Village Hall was opened on 3rd February 2024 by Joy Douglas who had been an active worshiper and supporter of the Chapel for many years. Sadly Joy passed away a month later. The Hall actively held fundraising events and hired out the hall to raise the required finances to pay for its ongoing upkeep.\nBut the facilities were in desperate need of modernisation and updating, it was cold, damp and the outside toilet was bleak. <\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Village Hall Refurbish<\/h3>

A Scheme and plans were drawn up in 2024 to fully refurbish the Hall, to include access ramps, new fully accessible toilets as well as modernising the building, with a new kitchen, heating and solar panels and a sound system. \nIn September 2024 a grant application was submitted to the UK Governments shared prosperity fund delivered by Cornwall Council and the Isles of Scilly Good Growth fund and was approved, funding the refurbishment of the Hall to make it accessible to all and a building fit for purpose. Tenders were sought and the contract for the works was issued on 4th November 2024 to \u2018Design Group\u2019 a Bodmin builder. The works were completed on 5th February 2025 to a very high standard. \nThe success of the project required the removal of the historic Trudgeon Organ. At the last minute a new home was found and the organ was carefully dismantled with the guidance of Clive Ellison, and transported to The Market House St Austell where it is intended to rebuild and preserve the organ. \nThe hall was reopened by George Kestell on 22nd February 2025. It is financed by hiring out to community groups and individuals and lots of fundraising, and it is now available for hire.
